MANILA, Philippines—Ginebra’s Justin Brownlee tipped his hat to TNT’s Rondae Hollis-Jefferson for winning the PBA Governors’ Cup’s Best Import of the Conference award.

Before Game 4 of the Finals where Gin Kings defeated the Tropang Giga, 106-92, Hollis-Jefferson defended his crown as the PBA Governors’ Cup’s best import, edging Brownlee for the plum.

Although he didn’t win the individual accolade, Brownlee believed his counterpart was deserving of the award.

MANILA, Philippines—After being down two games to none, Ginebra pushed the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals back to square one thanks in large part to Stephen Holt’s heroics.

Despite the Gin Kings looking down at a dangerous 0-2 hole, Holt wanted to highlight his team’s resilience and he did just that in the squad’s 106-92 win over the Tropang Giga at Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.

“We can never put our heads down at all, I think that’s the biggest thing about this group, which is our resilience,” said Holt.

Barangay Ginebra kicked it up a notch in the second quarter and then kept it together the rest of the way on Sunday night, gutting out a 106-92 Game 4 victory at the expense of TNT to level the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals to two games apiece.

The Gin Kings hit one big basket after another just when the defending champions tried to claw back into the thick of things at Smart Araneta Coliseum, pulling out a pulsating win before a thick crowd at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

“We just kept making big shots when we needed to. We’ve been doing that pretty much all conference long. It just seems like when TNT starts to make a run at it, somebody hits a big shot,” head coach Tim Cone said shortly after the series equalizer.

As much as it was a relief to finally get a win in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals, Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone doesn’t see it as a meaningful outcome.

At least not yet.

“This one won’t mean much if we don’t get the one on Sunday,” said Cone as the Gin Kings look to even their championship tussle with the TNT Tropang Giga when Game 4 tips off at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Ginebra avoided a dreaded 0-3 hole two nights earlier, turning the tables on TNT with its own defensive stand that translated into an 85-73 win. And with the way the series has been played, the team that forces the other to throw more bricks may have the best chance at winning.

MANILA, Philippines—LA Tenorio may just be what Ginebra needed to turn things around against TNT in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.

Tenorio did not play in the first two games of the series but got the start in Game 3 and made a big difference for the Gin Kings in their breakthrough victory on Friday.

“We started LA just to lengthen our rotation and I thought he did a tremendous job… I thought that was a real change for us that helped,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone after preventing the Tropang Giga from taking a 3-0 series lead.

MANILA, Philippines—Maverick Ahanmisi has no qualms coming off the bench for Barangay Ginebra, especially after playing his best game in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.

After struggling as a starter in Games 1 and 2 of the finals, Ahanmisi snapped out of his slump and helped the Gin Kings avoid a 0-3 hole against defending champion TNT.

“Personally, I enjoy coming off the bench,” said Ahanmisi after Ginebra’s 85-73 win in Game 3 on Friday.
