After releasing their duet version, KZ Tandingan admitted that she did not expect TJ Monterde’s “Palagi” would make such an impact on the listeners, especially the TikTok audience.

“Palagi” was originally sung by Monterde before Tandingan joined him for the duet that they released last month as a part of the celebration of their fourth wedding anniversary.

In a recent interview with INQUIRER.net at the launch of her new single, “Toyo,” Tandingan was all smiles when asked about her viral video with Monterde.

“Syempre po hindi [iniexpect],” said the singer when asked how she felt about the success of the song. “Pero nagpapasalamat po sa mga sumusuporta palagi.”

Tandingan and Monterde’s “Palagi” duet has accumulated 1 million streams on Spotify in just one day after its release. During its 16 days on the platform, the song gathered around 10 million streams.

Meanwhile, as to her latest single “Toyo,” Tandingan underscored that she tried to get out of her comfort zone and be creatively “experimental.”

“If you listen to the songs from my previous albums, this is really something na hindi mo ine-expect na part ng album ko and it’s an experimental track na I’m so pleased na gumana,” she stated, adding that it represents herself out of her comfort zone.

When asked what kind of message she wants to communicate with her fans with her new songs, the 32-year-old singer said, “Just try something you’ve never done before.”

As Original Pilipino Music (OPM) continues to evolve through the years, Tandingan remarked that she tries to make sure she can contribute to the development of local music by being open to new learning.

“I try to learn something new every day; listen to the youngsters, kasi madami akong natutunan sa kanila,” she said.
